Summer Skincare Staples from Simple

Simple has long been one of my favourite skincare brands. They're accessible, affordable, suitable for the most sensitive of skin types, no frills or fancy packaging necessary; just really good products. They recently released a new Protect 'N' Glow range, which is perfect for all your summer skincare needs, from SPF to hydration.

Initially I tried two of the products from the range, but was so impressed I had to go and purchase another couple of items to see how they fit into my usual skincare routine. The products focus on three major issues: UVA/UVB rays, because as we all know, sun can be really damaging to the skin; blue light, which is important as many of us spend so much time in front of screens; and finally pollution - you often think about how damaging pollution is to the environment, but it can be just as bad for your skin! For me, this was the perfect combination of issues to combat, as someone who lives in a city, uses screens a lot and most of all wanted protection against the sun.

The first product I used from the range is the Triple Protect SPF30 Moisturiser - triple protection from the three issues mentioned above: sun, screens and pollution. Its most important ingredients are antioxidant vitamins C & E and ginger root. It is a day moisturiser, which isn't something I tended to use previously as I have combination skin and have always been concerned about making it any oiler, but it does not make my skin greasy at all, which I was so relieved about! I pop this on every morning before applying makeup and it is very easy to apply makeup on top of. The moisturiser does not have an overpowering scent at all, it perhaps reminds me of suncream a little bit, but is nowhere near as strong! It certainly provides thorough protection against the sun, which I could tell on days I used it vs one day I accidentally forgot to... although I would recommend topping it up with a proper SPF on very sunny days. Overall, I have been using this daily for about two months now and would hate to be without it!

Next up is the Detox and Brighten Clay Mask, one of the most affordable products in the range. This promises to 'draw out impurities and pollutants like a magnet', which sounded pretty appealing! The core ingredients are very similar to the moisturiser, making them pair very well together. Apply this for 5-7 minutes after cleansing the face - it is recommended to do this twice a week, but honestly I end up usually applying it once a week because I like to rotate it with another face mask. This makes your skin feel SO smooth after applying and the brightening effects are noticeable. A little goes a long way so this mask is excellent value for money.

I recently started using the Rest and Reset 72hr Hydrating Gel, an overnight moisturiser promising fresh and radiant skin. Because of my combination skin type, I much prefer gel rather than cream based formulas, so this looked right up my street. I typically use this every other evening, rotating it with Simple's Light Moisturiser from their original range of products. Many of the reviews of this product deem it better than high end moisturisers which I am not surprised about at all, because it feels super luxurious to say it is so affordable! It sinks into the skin really well and feels very refreshing; but I can't tell if it has made a huge difference yet!

The final product I have tried from the range is the Brightening Eye Gel. I was after an eye cream because it is the area where I tend to concentrate most of my makeup as a huge eyeshadow fan, I really wanted to take an extra step to look after them. This has three possible uses: as a brightening gel in the morning, as a primer before makeup or throughout the day to soothe tired eyes. Personally, I use it along with my SPF moisturiser in the morning to brighten up the eye area. I love the gel formula, it feels lovely and has a real awakening effect. I'm still on the hunt for an eye product to use overnight, but this one is great for daily use!

The range is typically aimed at 'dull and tired skin', so is suitable for all skin types, be it dry, oily or that awkward combination type like myself! Although this range has been released perfectly in time for summer, I definitely think it can be used all year round, as the sun is still around and can be just as damaging in the winter months! Simple's Protect 'N' Glow range are available all over, from FeelUnique to Boots and Superdrug, to even your nearest big supermarket. The prices range from £4.99 - £7.99, but they are currently half price at Boots, making them even more affordable!

What are your skincare go-tos in the summer months?
