Three Fiction Books I Read This Summer

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Summer is nearly over, which means a round up of the books I've read! Over the summer I read three books that I really enjoyed so I decided to do mini reviews of them on my blog. The three books I chose were Eleanor & Park, Second Chance Summer and To All The Boys I've Loved Before

Eleanor and Park - Rainbow Rowell

It took me a while to get into this book, but once I got into the story, I could not stop reading it. The story is about two high school students, Eleanor, the new girl, and Park, the quiet boy trying to fit in, who were forced to sit together every day on the bus. I bought this book because I'd read lots of good reviews, and many of them said they were disappointed with the ending - which I have to agree with. I was really disappointed with the ending of the book. I'll leave it to you to read it and tell me whether you feel the same way!

Second Chance Summer - Morgaan Matson

Second Chance Summer, by Morgan Matson follows the story of a girl called Taylor who, with her family, return to their holiday home after 5 years for the summer. Last time she was there she was 12, made huge mistakes with her friends and ran away from her problems. Now she's back, will they give her a second chance?
My favourite story of the three, Second Chance Summer is an emotional book, focusing not only on romance but family and friendship issues. I really enjoyed reading about Taylor and her old best friend Lucy's friendship. I would recommend this as a great summer read, but make sure you have tissues ready because it gets quite sad towards the end!

To All The Boys I've  Loved Before - Jenny Han

Lara Jean writes love letters to all the boys she ever loves. It's her way of saying goodbye, and getting over them. She seals and addresses the letters yet doesn't send them, keeping them in a hatbox her mother gave her. This book tells the story of what happens when the letters are mysteriously sent out.
I found the storyline of this book quite predictable, I would've liked some kind of plot twist towards the end because I could see where the story was heading as soon as the letters were sent out! However I do really want to read the sequel to find out what happens next to the characters, because as much as I found it predictable, I loved the characters - especially the relationship between the three sisters.

If you have read any good books this summer let me know in the comments!

Lipstick Love: Rimmel Nude Collection

Monday, August 17, 2015

Recently I have been loving the new Rimmel nude collection lipsticks. Rimmel claim in their nude collection there is a shade to suit every skin tone. I went for shade 43 - the tan nude and shade 45 - the rose nude. These are the third and fourth lightest out of the five shades.
Shade 43 is a brown toned nude and shade 45 is a slightly darker, pink toned nude. I love the consistency of these lipsticks, they feel really good on the lips and are also long lasting too.
The collection is distinguishable in stores by their peachy packaging, rather than the other Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks which are either red or black tubes. For only £5.49, they are really nice nudes and definitely worth trying.

Let me know your favourite lipsticks in the comments below!

Review: McBusted at Lytham Festival

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

On Saturday 8th August 2015 I went to see McBusted at Lytham Festival. I had Get To The Front tickets, meaning we were in the front section of the venue. After queuing for several hours, I managed to get to the barrier for the show, something I've never experienced before.

We were let in at 5pm, and the first support act came on at 6.30pm - that was Calum Scott, who featured on this years' Britain's Got Talent. He was my favourite support act by far, his voice was really good. The other two support acts were Hometown - an Irish boyband managed by Louis Walsh, and Karen Harding.

Then came on McBusted. Me and my friend Jess were actually so close we got to see them do 'The Clap' - a ritual they do before every show - so we were very excited before they even arrived on stage.

They leapfrogged on, as they did in every summer show, and started with Air Guitar and One For The Radio. These two songs are excellent choices for the beginning of the setlist; they really got the crowd going! Fans like me were singing along from the start to the end and the atmospehere was incredible.

The setlist was very similar to the Most Excellent Adventure Tour, but without 3 songs. I won't say which in case it's a spoiler but I was quite disappointed they had to remove any!

Even when they weren't performing, McBusted kept the crowd's focus throughout with their humour. One of my favourites parts of the show (and James Bourne's highlight of any of the McBusted shows ever!) was when Matt and Harry lifted up Dougie Dirty Dancing style whilst the crowd sang The Time Of My Life. It was an amazing moment unique to our show.

I had a moment where me and James were pointing at each other (pictured above) and Danny also nodded at me! It was truly unforgettable.

This McBusted show was possibly my favourite I've ever been to. It was incredible to be so close up to them and if you ever get the chance to be front row for your favourite band, it is so worth it!

I'd love to hear if you've been to any concerts this summer in the comments below, and I also apologise if there has been a lack of blog posts recently, I'm currently on holiday but things will get back to normal soon so thanks for understanding!
